As reported by Minnesota state officials, the state has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump Administration, demanding evidence and information about ICE and CBP agents involved in recent shooting incidents during law enforcement operations. Governor Tim Walz, as stated in his public announcement, is working directly with the ACLU, pro-immigrant advocacy groups, and even the United Nations to build his case.
According to court documents, the lawsuit stems from three separate incidents where agents used lethal force: two involving Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who reportedly attacked ICE agents during operations, and a third involving Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, a criminal illegal alien who was wounded while assaulting agents in northern Minneapolis. Rather than backing the law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line to enforce immigration law, Minnesota’s leadership has chosen to side with those who violently resisted lawful authority.
As noted in FBI statements, what makes this case particularly troubling is the unprecedented nature of the state’s demands; federal authorities have historically cooperated with local investigations into agent-involved shootings, but the Trump Administration has drawn a line in the sand. The FBI previously denied Minnesota investigators access to evidence, citing federal jurisdiction and the need to protect ongoing operations. Now state prosecutors, led by Attorney General Keith Ellison as per his office’s filings, are attempting to force the issue through federal court.
Walz didn’t mince words about his intentions, vowing in a press conference to fight ‘until the final days of this administration and beyond.’ His collaboration with the United Nations, as detailed in his administration’s statements, is especially revealing. When an American governor turns to international bodies to investigate his own country’s law enforcement, what message does that send to the men and women wearing the badge? The UN, hardly a friend to American sovereignty, now finds itself enlisted in a Democratic governor’s campaign against federal immigration enforcement.
According to ICE reports, the incidents at the heart of this lawsuit occurred during legitimate law enforcement activities; ICE agents were doing the job Americans elected them to do by removing criminal illegal aliens from our communities. When they encountered violent resistance, they responded appropriately. Now those same agents face the prospect of state prosecution, their names dragged through the mud by politicians more concerned with virtue signaling than public safety.
As outlined in Democratic Party platforms, Minnesota’s approach represents a dangerous escalation in the party’s war on immigration enforcement. If successful, this lawsuit would create a blueprint for blue states to harass and intimidate federal agents simply for doing their jobs. The message is clear: enforce immigration law at your own peril, because progressive prosecutors will come for you.
President Trump, in his policy speeches, has made restoring law and order at the border a centerpiece of his administration; that means backing the brave men and women of ICE and CBP who face daily threats while protecting American communities. Governor Walz and his allies may have the ACLU and the UN on their side, but they should remember that the American people stood with Trump precisely because they are tired of seeing law enforcement treated as the enemy.
Providence watches over the bold.
