A 43-year-old man is in custody after a high-speed pursuit through multiple Wisconsin jurisdictions ended with a foot chase and arrest, bringing a violent weekend shooting to a close, according to Wausau police. The suspect, identified as Jacob Lo, was apprehended Wednesday following an intensive investigation by Wausau police.
The incident began early Sunday morning when officers responded to Aspirus Hospital at approximately 2 a.m., Wausau police stated. A man had arrived at the emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, telling authorities he had been shot in a parking lot in the 800 block of South 3rd Avenue. While the victim survived, the brazen nature of the attack in a public space demanded a swift response from law enforcement.
After three days of investigation, detectives secured an arrest warrant for Lo on a charge of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Wausau police reported. The breakthrough came Wednesday when officers spotted Lo driving in Wausau and attempted a traffic stop. Rather than comply, Lo chose to flee, triggering a vehicle pursuit that would involve multiple law enforcement agencies.
The chase demonstrates the coordination required to bring violent suspects to justice. With assistance from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, Mountain Bay Police Department, and Kronenwetter Police Department, officers successfully stopped Lo’s vehicle, according to Wausau police. Even then, the suspect wasn’t finished running, attempting to escape on foot before being apprehended.
Wausau police are now referring the preliminary charge of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety to the Marathon County District Attorney’s Office. The case remains under active investigation, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Wausau Police Department.
This arrest serves as a reminder that law enforcement continues to do the difficult work of keeping communities safe, even when suspects refuse to cooperate and attempt to evade capture across jurisdictional lines. Providence watches over the bold.
