Radio host Charlamagne Tha God crossed a line this week that says far more about him than it does about President Trump. In a disturbing on-air rant, Charlamagne declared that when Trump dies, “people are gonna treat it like Mardi Gras in New Orleans.” The celebrations, he promised, will be epic. The things people will say will be vicious. And somehow, in his twisted worldview, Trump has nobody to blame but himself.
This macabre prediction came after Trump posted on Truth Social about Robert Mueller’s death: “Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!” The former FBI director, who spent years investigating the Russia collusion hoax and ruined countless lives in the process, passed away Saturday at 81. Trump’s blunt assessment triggered the usual pearl-clutching from the media class, but Charlamagne took it to an entirely different level.
“You’ve already ruined yours because you’re, you know, going to go down as the worst president of all time because you don’t give a damn about democracy, wiping your a– with the Constitution,” Charlamagne ranted. He accused Trump of being “on pace to lead this country into the worst financial crisis of all time.” Facts, of course, don’t support this hysteria—inflation is down, markets are strong, and wages are rising. But when has reality ever stopped a left-wing pundit from spewing venom?
Here’s what makes this truly sickening. Charlamagne isn’t just some random Twitter troll. He’s a mainstream media figure with millions of listeners. He’s been platformed by major networks, treated as a serious political commentator, and given the kind of cultural influence most conservatives can only dream of. And he’s using that platform to fantasize about the death of a sitting president and the public celebrations that would follow.
The hypocrisy is staggering. Charlamagne accused Trump of hypocrisy for cracking down on foreign nationals who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s death in September. But at least those were foreigners. Charlamagne is an American citizen wishing death on his own president. There’s a difference between criticizing policy and actively hoping for someone’s demise—and Charlamagne gleefully crossed that line.
“Do you care what Barron sees about you after you pass? Do you care what Melania sees about you after you pass? What about your grandkids?” Charlamagne asked, as if Trump is the one lacking basic human decency. This from a man who just told a father of five that the world will throw a party when he dies.
The White House responded by pointing to Trump’s previous assessment of Charlamagne as a “racist sleazebag” and “low-IQ individual.” Hard to argue with that characterization after this latest display. Trump noted that Charlamagne “knows nothing about me or what I have done—like just ending 5 Wars, including a 31 year bloodbath between Republic of the Congo and Rwanda.”
But here’s the thing Charlamagne doesn’t understand. Trump’s legacy won’t be defined by what radio hosts say about him. It will be defined by the borders he secured, the wars he ended, the economy he built, and the deep state he continues to dismantle. History remembers builders, not bitter commentators who built their careers on tearing others down.
