President Trump is deploying ICE agents to America’s airports, and the irony is so thick you could cut it with a knife. According to a White House statement, after Democrats spent years screaming to defund, dismantle, and abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they’ll now have to pass through ICE officers just to catch their flights home.
The move comes as Transportation Security Administration lines at major airports have spiraled into chaos—snaking through baggage claim, out the doors, and leaving travelers stranded for hours. As reported by Fox News, Democrats in Congress have repeatedly refused to fund the Department of Homeland Security, using the suffering of American travelers as leverage to force Republicans to kneecap immigration enforcement.
But Trump played his trump card. Here’s the beautiful irony: ICE isn’t affected by the DHS shutdown. Thanks to last year’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” passed through reconciliation, ICE is fully funded through 2029. So while TSA agents go without paychecks and security lines stretch into infinity, ICE officers are still on the payroll—and now they’re being redirected to keep America’s airports secure.
The Democrats wanted ICE out of the equation. Instead, they’ve made ICE the solution. Travelers in San Diego have already faced hours-long delays as the shutdown collided with spring break season, as noted in reports from local media. In California, LAX and SFO have avoided the worst thanks to private contractors, but elsewhere the dysfunction is palpable. And through it all, Democrats have prioritized their open-border ideology over basic governance.
What kind of political party refuses to fund homeland security while the country is at war, terror threats are constant, and attacks have already occurred? The same party that thinks using ICE to screen passengers is somehow a loss for their side, when in reality it’s a win for every American who just wants to get to their gate without missing their flight.
