The ceasefire isn’t dead, but it’s bleeding.
Iranian forces just learned the hard way what happens when you poke the American lion. According to U.S. Central Command, Iranian military units launched an unprovoked attack on three American destroyers transiting the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, firing missiles, drones, and deploying small fast-attack boats against the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta, and USS Mason. The result? Complete and total destruction of the attacking forces.
President Trump didn’t mince words in his response. “Three World Class American Destroyers just transited, very successfully, out of the Strait of Hormuz, under fire,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “There was no damage done to the three Destroyers, but great damage done to the Iranian attackers.” He added that the Iranian boats “went to the bottom of the Sea, quickly and efficiently.”
CENTCOM confirmed that U.S. forces intercepted all incoming threats before conducting retaliatory “self-defense strikes” targeting Iranian missile and drone launch sites, command-and-control facilities, and intelligence nodes. Fox News reported that the strikes hit Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas, along with the Bandar Kargan naval checkpoint in Minab. No American assets were struck, no American lives lost.
Here’s what the establishment media won’t emphasize: this is exactly how you handle rogue regimes that test American resolve. Iran’s military described the U.S. response as a “ceasefire violation” and threatened retaliation, which is rich coming from the aggressor. Iranian state media even claimed the U.S. targeted an oil tanker, a classic propaganda move to deflect from their own belligerence.
The Strait of Hormuz remains the world’s most critical oil chokepoint, and Tehran knows it. By attacking American naval vessels in these waters, Iran isn’t just testing Trump; they’re testing whether the United States still has the stomach to protect its interests and allies. Yesterday’s response should answer that question definitively.
Trump maintains the ceasefire with Iran is technically “still in effect,” but let’s be clear: this was an act of war by any reasonable definition. The only reason it hasn’t escalated further is because American military superiority made Iranian aggression prohibitively expensive. When your attack boats end up at the bottom of the ocean and your port facilities are smoking ruins, you tend to reconsider your options.
