They used to at least pretend to believe in the peaceful transfer of power. They used to pay lip service to the idea that elections have consequences, not criminal prosecutions. But that was before Trump broke their brains — now Democratic governors are openly promising to throw their political enemies in prison.
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, the billionaire hotel heir who somehow convinced voters he’d understand the struggles of working people, just laid out his vision for “restoring the rule of law.” And sure enough, his definition of “law and order” happens to involve locking up everyone who worked for the Trump administration.
In a revealing interview with the New York Times, Pritzker was asked about his agenda for a potential 2029 presidential run. His answer should send chills down the spine of anyone who still believes in American democracy. “We’ve got to restore the rule of law,” he declared, “and that means holding people accountable who’ve broken the law.” Fair enough, you might think — criminals should face consequences. But then he kept talking.
“Talking about this administration, when we get a new one, the people in this administration who’ve broken the law and federal agents who’ve broken the law need to be held accountable.” The reporter pressed him: “And that means criminally prosecuted?” Pritzker didn’t hesitate. “Criminally prosecuted, civilly prosecuted, whatever it is that we can do.”
There it is. The mask is completely off. A sitting Democratic governor is openly campaigning on a platform of prosecuting his political opponents — not for actual crimes, mind you, but for the crime of enforcing laws that Democrats don’t like. Immigration enforcement? Criminal. Investigating corruption? Criminal. Daring to serve in a Republican administration? Apparently, that’s criminal too.
This is how it works in banana republics. In healthy democracies, elections determine who holds power. In failing states, prosecutors and political commissars determine who gets to participate in public life. Pritzker just told us exactly which model he prefers — and he’s not alone. From New York to California, Democrats have spent years normalizing the idea that political disagreement should be criminalized, that policy debates should be settled in courtrooms rather than at the ballot box.
Let’s be clear about what’s actually happening here. The Trump administration has been enforcing immigration laws that have been on the books for decades — laws that Democrats themselves passed and previous presidents enforced without controversy. ICE agents are doing the job they were hired to do, following the orders of a duly elected president. But in Pritzker’s twisted worldview, that makes them criminals who must be hunted down and prosecuted the moment Democrats regain power.
And notice the weasel words he uses. “Whatever it is that we can do.” Translation: if we can’t find an actual crime — and let’s be honest, they won’t — we’ll use civil lawsuits to bankrupt and harass anyone who dared to serve their country under Trump. It’s lawfare, plain and simple. The process is the punishment.
Pritzker isn’t some fringe figure muttering on a street corner. He’s the governor of the sixth-largest state in the union, a potential 2028 presidential contender, and a major voice in the Democratic Party. When he talks, the base listens. And what he’s telling them is that the old rules are dead — that the era of peaceful political competition is over, replaced by a permanent cold war where the only question is who gets to hold the handcuffs.
This is the same playbook we’ve seen across the left. They impeached Trump twice. They indicted him in four separate jurisdictions. They raided Mar-a-Lago. They censored his supporters online. And when all of that failed to stop him, they started shooting. Now Pritzker wants to add “prosecute every federal agent who enforced immigration law” to the list.
The irony would be hilarious if it weren’t so dangerous. These are the same people who spent four years warning us that Trump was a “threat to democracy.” These are the same voices who lectured us about “norms” and “institutions.” And now they’re openly promising to use the criminal justice system as a weapon against their enemies — not because anyone broke the law, but because they lost an election and can’t handle it.
Here’s the truth that Pritzker and his ilk don’t want you to hear: the American people see through this charade. We know that “accountability” is just their code word for revenge. We know that “restoring norms” means returning to a system where conservatives are expected to lose gracefully while Democrats weaponize every lever of power against us. And we know that the same people who want to throw ICE agents in prison would scream bloody murder if anyone suggested prosecuting the bureaucrats who spent four years undermining a sitting president from within.
Pritzker’s comments aren’t just reckless — they’re a warning. The left has given up on persuasion. They’ve given up on winning arguments. Now they just want to win by default, by making it too dangerous for anyone to oppose them. That’s not democracy. That’s tyranny with a law degree.
