Rep. Andy Ogles isn’t messing around. The Tennessee Republican just dropped articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge Allison Dale Burroughs, and it’s about time someone held these rogue judges accountable.
The judge had the audacity to block the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for Somalia, claiming she had the authority to overrule the executive branch on immigration enforcement. She doesn’t. The Immigration and Nationality Act is crystal clear: courts have zero business reviewing the Homeland Security Secretary’s decisions on TPS designations. Zero.
Ogles put it bluntly on X: “America is not Africa’s dumping ground. We will end Temporary Protected Status, remove those who have no lawful right to remain, and put the sovereignty of the American people FIRST.” That’s the kind of unapologetic leadership we need more of in Congress.
The impeachment resolution doesn’t mince words. It accuses Burroughs of unlawfully blocking a lawful executive action and trying to sidestep Supreme Court precedent in the process. The administration has made it clear they’re not renewing any TPS designations, which completely undermines the judge’s flimsy discrimination claims.
Here’s the question we should all be asking: how many times will activist judges get away with legislating from the bench before Congress finally checks their power? The Constitution gives the House the power of impeachment for a reason. Ogles is reminding us that reason still matters.
The response on social media has been overwhelmingly supportive. Conservatives are tired of watching unelected judges throw wrenches into policies the American people voted for. When President Trump campaigned on securing the border and ending abuse of temporary immigration programs, he meant it. And the voters who put him back in the White House meant it too.
Judge Burroughs isn’t just wrong on the law. She’s wrong on the basic principle of who gets to set immigration policy in this country. Hint: it’s not federal judges in Massachusetts.
Ogles is showing Republicans how it’s done. No more timid press releases. No more symbolic votes. If judges want to act like politicians, they can face political consequences. That’s what impeachment is for.
