When female Olympic athletes speak up about protecting women’s sports, the world should listen. Tuesday’s Supreme Court ruling upholding state bans on biological males competing in women’s sports didn’t just deliver a legal victory, it gave voice to generations of women who’ve watched their hard-fought athletic spaces get invaded by political correctness run amok.
Leah O’Brien-Amico, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in softball, put it plainly. “Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a victory for every girl who has ever dreamed of competing at the highest level,” she told Fox News Digital. “As a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, I am deeply grateful that I had the opportunity to compete on a level playing field with other biological females.” She gets it. The integrity and safety of women’s sports must be protected in every way.
MyKayla Skinner, who took silver in gymnastics at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, had a message for the activists who’ve been dismissing female athletes’ concerns. “People from the far left… hopefully they wake up and just realize just how many girls are affected by this. It’s a real thing, and I think sometimes it just goes over their head and they don’t see what’s going on with the girls.” How many more female athletes need to lose scholarships, records, and opportunities before the woke crowd admits there’s a problem?
Kaillie Humphries, a three-time Olympic gold medalist in bobsled who competed for both the U.S. and Canada, credited the generations who came before. “Women’s sports has changed my life, providing opportunities and a career I couldn’t have got elsewhere. I get to do what I love because people fought to create and protect a space for biological women.” She called Tuesday’s decision “a big win for women’s sports in this country.”
Even tennis legend Martina Navratilova, no stranger to controversy and certainly no conservative, backed the ruling. “The Supreme Court made the proper decision today, allowing 27 states to continue formally protecting girls’ and women’s sports. Democratic politicians and blue states need to wake up to the biological reality of a female’s sex.” When Martina Navratilova is telling Democrats to wake up, you know the far left has gone off the deep end.
Katie Uhlaender, a five-time Olympian in skeleton, summed up what this fight has always been about. “Today’s Supreme Court ruling is inspiring because it recognizes that protecting women as a biological class is not discrimination. It affirms that fairness matters, that reality matters, and that women shouldn’t have to apologize for asking for fair and safe competition. Without Fairness, there is no sport.”
The 6-3 decision doesn’t force every state to ban transgender athletes from women’s sports, but it affirms that states have the right to do so. For the 27 states that have passed such protections, this is vindication. For the female athletes who’ve been called bigots simply for wanting a level playing field, this is justice delayed but not denied.
